Ubuntu e problema scheda audio

Salve a tutti, sono approdato ieri sera ad Ubuntu dopo avere avuto diversi problemi di blocchi, ritardi ed altre scocciature varie con Windows XP.
Pensavo di avere un sacco di problemi con l'installazione delle periferiche e invece, miracolo, tutto è stato semplice come non mi sarei mai aspettato.:asd:
Stampante, modem, webcam, nulla ha avuto bisogno dei vari dischetti di installazione.
L'unico problema che non sono riuscito a risolvere è quello relatovo all'audio.
La mia scheda madre Asus ha integrato il Realtek AC97, ma ancora non sono riuscito a produrre alcun suono. Qualcuno può darmi qualche suggerimento per risolvere il problema?

innanzitutto ringrazio Carlo Panceri per la cortese risposta.
Vorrei pregarti, visto che sono approdato soltanto da due giorni su Ubuntu, di essere così cortese da spiegare in maniera semplice, dato che non conosco termini e procedure [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...],come attivare l'audio e come fare funzionare il masterizzatore Brasero (devo masterizzare dei filmati che ho su un HD esterno).

Hai l'icona relativa all'audio nel vassoio di sistema in alto a destra?
Se si prova a controllare che il volume non sia a zero e magari dovrai alzare i canali PCM o Front/Center nel mixer audio :sisi:

L'icona con l'altoparlante è presente in alto a dx.

Mmm... Adesso ti cheiderò di mettere dei comandi in un terminale e di postare il risultato. So che il terminale non è molto amato, ma è la via più veloce per ricavare una marea di informazioni.

Perfetto la tua scheda è rilevata, in alsamixer cambia da MM a 00 i canali PCM e center (o front non ricordo) e una volta fatto questo spostati con le frecce verso l'alto per alzare i livelli dei singoli canali.
Prova così e vedi se senti qualche cosa dalle casse.

Il problema dell'AUX non dovrebbe entrare enl discorso audio eprché è relativo alla presa PS/2 della tastiera e mouse :429:

Se introduco un cd nel lettore e apro con Rhythmbox nella videata c'è scritto "non in riproduzione" e se clicco sull'icona in alto a dx del riproduttore c'è scritto "interrotto".:muro:

il settaggio con alsamixer lo avevo già fatto (tutti gli indicatori sono su 00 e le colonnine al massimo).

Che nome della scheda ti da in alto a destra? Non capisco davvero che problemi abbia perché da come ne parli tu la scheda è rilevata correttamente e i volumi dovrebbero anche essere alti... mmm...

Non hai mica un regolatore a potenziometro in giro per il pc (specie sui portatili) o stai mica usando una uscita ottica?

Non si sono potenziometri in giro nè collegamenti ottici.
Tutte le colonnine sono settate su un valore attorno a 77 ( lo 00 che ti dicevo prima riguardava quanto riportato alla base delle colonnine che mi sembrava essere il valore del volume).
Ancora grazie per la pazienza.
Piuttosto, potrebbe essere la scheda madre con integrata la scheda audio che non va?
